Atherton Collieries are delighted to announce that defender Ian Rowlands has agreed to join the club. He is a familiar face to Colls fans, having last season captained Clitheroe in both of their clashes with the club. Described as an old fashioned centre-half who brings a calming influence at the back, the 29 year old stopper comes with a wealth of experience at this level.
Starting his career at Ellesmere Rangers in his native Shropshire, Ian gained experience in Wales with Newtown before relocating to the North West. The adopted Wiganer has also played for Ashton Athletic, where he captained the club, and Skelmersdale United.
Speaking to us over the weekend, Ian said:
“Atherton Colls are a club I have a massive amount of respect for and always been a club I have kept a close eye on. I have played against Colls many times and they have always been one of my toughest opponents.”
“For me it is an exciting opportunity given the progress the club has made and it was an easy decision after speaking with Cleggy about his plans for the season. I’m really looking forward to getting going and hope I can make a really positive contribution to the club.”
Please join us in welcoming Ian to the club.
