The scene is set for our final home league game of the season, on a glorious bank holiday Monday, Trafford FC are the visitors in a game that Colls can clinch the single automatic promotion spot to the Northern Premier League with a win. Two games to go and it’s all in our own hands.

In a hectic end of season, the form book is now out of the window. On Saturday, Colls ran out comfortable 3-0 winners away to Skelmersdale United whilst Trafford were held to a scoreless draw at home to play-off contenders Runcorn Linnets. Both sets of players now looking for a speedy recovery, having played on pitches that haven’t seen much rain of late and in blazing sunshine. Our referee on Saturday sensibly allowing drinks breaks in the shade during stoppages.

Trafford themselves are now outside the play-off spots but will be on a massive high following lifting the Integro Cup at FC United of Manchester’s ground last Tuesday against Evo-Stik Premier Division table-toppers Farsley Celtic. Colls old boy Adam Farrell opening the scoring with a delicious finish following a run by Ross Davidson as Farsley pressed. Farsley equalised early in the second half through a Ben Atkinson shot from outside the box but Trafford responded almost immediately as Darius Palmer jinked into the box and hit a left footed shot across the Farsley keeper to take the famous old trophy back to Shawe View.

Also in the Trafford team and making a welcome return to the Skuna is defender Jimmy Moore, Jimmy wore the black and white of the Colls in the North-West Counties early in the manager’s reign. A ball playing centre-back with an eye for goal who could also fit comfortably into midfield.

Colls visited Trafford on Boxing Day, Tom Bentham heading us into the lead but a late Aaron Burns equaliser for Tom Baker’s boys meant the points were shared as the mist descended. We received some fantastic hospitality from our hosts so we look forward to repaying that.

We are expecting a bumper crowd with a healthy following from over Barton Bridge and the possibility of Colls winning the league in front of their home support giving the game an extra buzz.
