Clegg Expects Burnett Impact

With the first pre-season training session imminent and a glamorous friendly against Sky Bet Championship side Bolton Wanderers on the horizon, manager Micheal Clegg spoke tonight of his high hopes for striker Gary Burnett who has confirmed he will be staying with Atherton Collieries for the coming season. Since making a big impact at the club under Steve Pilling, following a spell as a youth player with Wigan Athletic, Gary went on to appear for Skelmersdale United, Curzon Ashton, Northwich Victoria, Shaw Lane and Colwyn Bay before returning to Alder House in January. “Last year we were the second lowest scorers in the league. Defensively we were solid but needed more goals." said Clegg, reflecting on last season. Speaking of glowingly of Burnett, he added: "Gaz came in injured and we helped him with his rehab, but he loved it here and wants to stay and wants to show everyone he can hit the highs again. I'm confident he will be a success and it's an unbelievable signing for us, adding to a really strong bunch of forward players we now have.”
