Clive Smith and Niall Battersby Extend Contracts

We are delighted to announce that young defenders Clive Smith and Niall Battersby have extended their contracts with the club until 2021. The news follows the announcement in December that teammates Danny Lafferty and Gaz Peet had committed their futures to the club, as we continue to plan for next season. Clive arrived at the club in December 2018 and made the right-back berth his own, impressing everyone with his solid performances. Niall made the big step up from Manchester League champions Hindsford over the summer and has taken everything in his stride, earning his first contract in October and now an extension a mere three months later. Talking about working with the new management team and his contract extension, Clive said: “I first met Brad in summer when I went back into training early and James Eachus was running sessions at West Didsbury, you could tell then what he was all about. Brad loves the club, everyone can see that, he gives 100% and that rubs off on everyone. I didn’t know Lynchy but he’s class, you know what you are getting with him; he’s old school.” “I’m buzzing to extend my contract with the club, there’s nothing better than being at a club you enjoy, every time you go in. It definitely bring the best out of you.” “We’re in a good run of form, I hope that that continues. There’s a good vibe at the club at the moment. It’s difficult going into a new league and finding your feet but I think we’ve done that now. We’ve got a strong base, looking forward, the foundations have been laid.” Talking about his contract, Niall said: “I’m buzzing that the club have given me a new contract, it shows that I’m doing something right which is always a massive confidence booster. Brad, Lynchy, Sads and Dempsey have been mint ever since they came in, and they have definitely contributed to my continued development here at Colls. I hope my time at Colls is successful and that I can give back to the club what they’ve given to me.” Manager Brad Cooke added: “I am delighted to tie these two lads down for another season. They are both very young and ambitious players that will have a very good career in football. As a club we are delighted to have this calibre of player willing to commit for next season and I am looking forward in playing a part in the players' development. It’s exciting times as a club.” “They have been fantastic for me since I came through the door and long may it continue.” Clive and Niall are pictured with club chairman Paul Gregory.
