Colls pull off Bentham coup

Atherton Collieries are delighted to announce the signing of 25 year old striker Tom Bentham, on his return from Australia. Tom started his career at Maine Road where his goal scoring record earned him a move to Nantwich Town. He then moved to Hyde United in the Conference North, scoring 15 goals in 34 appearances, including a quick-fire double against Chorley. "This is a massive signing for the club" manager Michael Clegg stated enthusiastically. "I've always had a good relationship with Tom and kept in touch. Him and Luke Giverin are best mates so they were a duo I have always wanted at the club. When Tom was at Hyde United a few years back he had interest from a Football League club and he has real ability. He is a big strong lad, eye for goal and makes the forward line really impressive." Reflecting upon the frontline that he has assembled, Cleggy added: "There will be a real fight on peoples' hands this pre-season to stake their claim... The forward lads we have now are a very strong group and all very different players." Photo: Melissa Adams
