Danny O’Brien Returns

We are delighted to announce the “return” of Danny O’Brien to Atherton Collieries. Danny was listed as Trialist as he scored our second goal against Al-Ittihad in pre-season, although his identity was possibly the worst kept secret in town! Starting his youth career at Aston Villa, Danny made his first-team debut for Wigan Athletic in the EFL Cup in August 2016. Following a spell in Finland, last season he represented Alfreton Town in the Nation League North. Despite that goal for Colls in pre-season, Danny started the campaign at Hyde United, opening his goal account just 4 minutes into the season. He then made it 2 in 2, netting in an away win at FC United three days later. Talking of the capture, manager Micheal Clegg said: “Danny did some of pre-season with us and at the time it was a toss-up between us and Hyde United. He chose Hyde at that point and for one reason or another it hasn’t worked out there. Danny’s a local lad and has loads of ability, we have a great relationship and I’m hoping we can bring the best out of him. He needs to find a home now, score some goals and get his name back out there because he is a top player and an asset to any side at this level”. Please join us in welcoming Danny back to the Skuna!
