On Saturday, Atherton Collieries travel to West Lancashire Premier Division side Coppull United for their second pre-season match of the summer. United have a challenging pre-season campaign, playing the likes of Nelson, Ashton Athletic and Prescot Cables. However, their LFA Amateur Shield winning players will be more than ready for the task and will provide stiff opponents for the NWCFL and Evo-Stik sides. One player of note who currently plays for Coppull United is former Collieries favourite Mitch Leece. The forward spent a couple of seasons at Alder House under Steve Pilling and once scored the winner for Colls in a Flatcap Derby at Crilly Park. Team news: Collieries will be without first team manager Michael Clegg who is off to watch Ed Sheeran at Wembley. Assistant manager Warren Jones has been quoted as saying, "You need me but I don't need you."
