The Colls are excited to announce that we will be welcoming Bury AFC to the Skuna Stadium for the final match of our pre-season campaign. The match will be played on Saturday 12th September, and further details on tickets and admission will be announced in due course.
Following their recent appointment of Andy Welsh as first-team manager, Bury AFC are preparing for their debut season in the North West Counties Football League, and will initially be playing their home matches at Radcliffe’s Stainton Park. Following a tough season without football for their faithful fanbase, the ambitious club have already signed up 650+ members under a fan-ownership model and will be looking to make an immediate impact at Step 6 of the non-league pyramid.
The friendly will also mark a return to the Skuna Stadium for Colls favourite Kris Holt, a member of the Collieries “Class of ‘14” who have represented the Collieries in both divisions of both the Northern Premier League and North West Counties, making 120 appearances in the Black & White midfield over multiple spells. Kris signed for Bury AFC earlier in August, and we look forward to welcoming him back to the Skuna Stadium.
Speaking on the announcement, Colls manager Brad Cooke said “I am delighted to be able to welcome Bury AFC down to the Skuna Stadium. I know Andy Welsh, and I am delighted that he is back involved with football. He is a top bloke who is building something special, and I am certain he will give their fantastic supporters something to cheer about once again.
“It’s great that we can allow fans back in to watch the game. Sometimes a match is bigger than just the football and this is one of those games. To say we could have so many people in the ground for this game following the last six months we have all had feels like a dream!”
