We are delighted to announce the arrival of defender Josh Thompson. Josh’s football journey started at the Colls, when he was a pupil at nearby Chowbent Primary School. Joining Stockport County’s youth system under the tutelage of former Colls manager Alan Lord, he was signed by Scottish giants Celtic, where he made 21 first team appearances.
Moving back to England, Josh has appeared in League One for Rochdale, Chesterfield, Portsmouth and Colchester. We are delighted to welcome Josh “home”.
Speaking earlier today about the signing, manager Micheal Clegg said:
“Josh is a local lad who has had a fantastic career. It wasn’t a signing we thought could or would happen to be honest but once I spoke to Josh, he seemed really keen on coming training. Our current injury situation isn’t great and Josh and myself really think he can help us at the moment. He is still only 28, possibly in his best years, so if we can help him get back playing regularly and injury free, I think the situation will help us both. His communication and professionalism around the lads is clear for everyone to see. I’m really looking forward to having him around."
Photographed on the right as be bonded with his new teammates at local restaurant Rama Spice, Josh commented that the slope on the pitch was steeper than he remembered!
