Atherton Collieries are delighted to announce that captain Danny Lafferty has extended his contract with the club whilst Gaz Peet has also agreed a contract until 2021. Leading the club through a difficult time following a change of management, the club captain said:
“I’m really pleased to be committing to Colls for the remainder of this season and next season. Although I was gutted about Cleggy Healdy, Baz and Eachus leaving, this just feels like home to me and I couldn’t see myself playing my football anywhere else at this moment in time.
The club has a special place in my heart, the lads are a special bunch and with Brad coming in as manager I’m sure that isn’t going to change.
We are on a good run at the moment and the fans have been first class so I’d like to say thank you for that on behalf of the boys and let’s keep this run going”.
Following an almost clean sweep of end of season awards last year, Gaz has continued to have a massive effect this season, earning himself the tag "Sir Gaz". The popular Wiganer added:
"I'm so proud to have signed a contract at Colls. As everybody knows the club means a lot to me and my family and I'm looking forward to continuing to give everything for the club and the fans. Thanks to you all for the support you have always shown me. I've got no doubt we will continue to progress".
