Atherton Collieries head to Tameside as we face Ashton United at Hurst Cross, many fans would’ve already been to Hurst Cross this season as our FA Cup Qualification campaign took us there in September.
Ashton United have hit a minor skid in their league season as in their last five fixtures they’ve drawn four and lost the other on boxing day against FC United of Manchester, despite this the Robins remain 9th in the league table, with aspirations to reach the play-offs.
Meanwhile we’ve seen a recent uptick in form be slightly derailed as after two stellar performances by David Chadwick’s men at Rylands and in the Boxing Day classic with Workington AFC recent defeats at the hands of Lancaster and Matlock Town have slightly slowed the momentum from the Christmas period.
Ashton United’s player to watch this season has been Jason Gilchrist, the St Helens born forward is a product of the Burnley youth system and has seen extensive playing time throughout non-league with spells at Southport, South Shields and most recently Buxton where he experienced promotion from the NPL before his summer move to Hurst Cross. His 12 goals this season lead the charts for the Robins, whilst ex-Colls forward Marcus Cusani may also feature in Saturday’s clash.
