Match Preview: Liversedge (A)

Twelve months ago Liversedge FC were slated to be our hosts for Jolly Boys X1. COVID put the kibosh on the fixture but the clubs ensured the fixture was merely delayed. The teams have met once before. Mr Vain by Culture Beat (does anybody remember this?) was top of the UK hit parade on Saturday 3 September 1993 when the West Yorkshire side visited Alder House. A crowd of 55 saw Alan Shawcross score in the 19th minute but Liversedge replied with two goals to dump Alan Lord’s and Steve Walton’s charges out of the FA Vase. Liversedge FC were promoted to the Northern Premier League Division 1 East from the Northern Counties East League following the curtailment of the 20/21 campaign. The elevation was based on a points per game calculation. They have had a steady pre-season and in their previous outing beat Ramsbottom United 3-1. Brad Cooke’s outfit come into their final friendly on the back of a professional display at Glossop North End. Goals from Elliot Rokka and Liam Martin ensured a 2-0 victory. For supporters wanting to wear the teams colours, the green kit will be in use. Report: Colls 1-2 Bacup

A delightful Dylan Moonan goal ultimately proved to be in vain as Atherton Collieries were beaten 2-1 by Bacup Borough in the Lancashire FA Trophy.
