Tomorrow, the Colls travel to the newly renamed Warrington Rylands, for what is monumentally our first fixture with spectators in 165 days.
Those who wish to attend are asked to contact @RylandsFC on twitter to pre-book their attendance, as due to the current phased return of supporters, the capacity will be limited. Rylands have advised that track & trace stations and hand sanitisation will be available upon entrance to the ground, and though food and drink will not be available inside the ground itself, the adjacent clubhouse and beer garden will be open from 12.
A football club with an industrial heritage similar to our own, the Rylands Recreational Club on Gorsey Lane was first opened in 1906 for workers at John Ryland’s iron & steelworks, with Rylands Works Association Football Team first playing on the site from 1911. Nowadays, the club are harbouring the desire to bring professional football to the town of Warrington, with their recent name change to ‘Warrington Rylands 1906’ cementing this ambition.
Currently, Warrington Rylands play in the North West Counties Premier Division with aspirations of promotion, with a strong squad featuring well-recognised & prolific players such as Paul Shanley, Ste Milne and Freddie Potter, hoping to continue their upward trajectory following their North West Counties First Division Championship in 2019.
Speaking about the friendly, Colls manager Brad Cooke said “We are really looking forward to seeing how we react after a good performance on Wednesday. Rylands are a top side and will cause us a lot of problems. We may try something a little different, but that is what pre-season is all about.”
Colls will be without our own Warringtonian, Dylan Glass, for the match, as he is set to miss out due to an ankle injury. Vinny Bailey and Danny Lambert will also be unavailable. Match Details: Warrington Rylands vs Atherton Collieries
