New Signing: Rio Pemberton

Atherton Collieries can confirm the signing of young striker Rio Pemberton, who joins on a free-transfer from Preston North End following an exciting trial with the club. An option in both the centre and out wide, Rio was prolific with goals & assists for the Preston youth sides, and previously also represented Blackburn Rovers. Rio offers additional pace up-front, combined with skill & creativity on the ball and fine technical ability. The youngster scored twice as a trialist for the Colls at Prestwich Heys, going on to start at #7 against Padiham and 1874 Northwich as well as a substitute appearance against Bolton. Speaking on the signing, Rio says: "I’m filled with nothing but excitement for what the future holds for me at the Colls. It will provide a good test, and enable me to grow and develop as a player in the great environment that the Gaffer has created. I’ve been in with the squad for a few weeks now, and there is a healthy winning mentality instilled within the group." "The 2023/2024 season is just around the corner, and can’t wait to see how much we can achieve as a team. Being a younger player, I feel as though there is lots that I can learn from some of the older more experienced players in the group that will help me enhance my game." "I want to provide the fans with excitement when they watch me play, as I like to create on the pitch. Having played in front of the fans a handful of times, I could sense that there is a very close connection between them and the players which is something special!" Manager David Chadwick adds: "Rio really excites me! I first saw him at the exit trials in May. He has pace, power and a great attitude, if he can fill his potential then he will be some player."
