Despite putting three goals past division rivals Skelmersdale United in Tuesday night's Integro League Cup win, Atherton Collieries have added to their goalscoring options with the capture of experienced front man Ryan Salmon.
Salmon, who began his career at Blackpool and has been a regular at Evo-Stik League level for a number of years having appeared for Kendal Town, Bamber Bridge and Ramsbottom United, was attracted by the local flavour of the Colls squad, as boss Micheal Clegg explains.
"Ryan had a few offers on the table but he liked the fact that we are twenty minutes down the road for him and he was excited by what we had to say".
"We have really struggled to score goals this season which is something new for us. Losing Mark Battersby, Mark Truffas and Vinny Bailey, you're always likely to be losing goals, so they need replacing if we are going to continue to progress."
"Ryan comes off the back of a good year with Rammy and is a proven goal scorer at this level, so we feel he can have an immediate impact."
"With him and Glenn Matthews signing this week, we feel extremely confident that we can turn what has been a frustrating start to the season in to a really positive first year in the Evo-Stik League and continue to make history for the club."
Salmon is in contention to make his debut in black and white at 3pm this Saturday (21st October) when Goole are the visitors to the Kensite Stadium (M46 9EY) for an Evo-Stik League Division One North fixture.
