New Signing: Sidi Sanogo Fofana

Atherton Collieries are excited to confirm the signing of highly rated midfielder Sidi Sanogo Fofana, which also marks the first signing of the David Chadwick era at the Skuna Stadium. The 24-year old Spaniard has earned increasing plaudits as he has worked his way up the football pyramid over recent years. Sidi contributed what has been described as a vital role for Macclesfield with 26 appearances as they won the 2021-22 North West Counties Premier Division, which was followed up with a combined total of 45 appearances for NPL First Division play-off duo Clitheroe & Runcorn Linnets in 2022-23. Sidi has also previously featured for both Glossop North End & Bamber Bridge in the NPL, alongside Spanish outfits Fraga and Bordeta. Though generally regarded as a holding midfielder, Sidi also offers the athleticism & versatility to be utilized as a more offensive threat. Combined with his passing vision & comfort in playing with both feet, Sidi is a player who presents a range of options in midfield, and we are delighted to welcome him to the Skuna Stadium. Speaking to the club, Sidi said: “It feels really good, I’m glad to be here! I spoke to the gaffer a few times over the summer and he was really honest and direct with me which I like and respect from managers. This made it easier for me to decide to continue my football here. Coming to Atherton Collieries is a step up for me from the league below but I’m more than ready for the challenge. “I have had some conversations with ex-team mates and ex-managers about Colls as a club and how it feels to play at the Skuna. All the feedback I received was positive, such as the club being a family club and a club where players can go and enjoy their football, which I believe is really important in order to keep performing well throughout the season. I can't wait to start playing and meet the fans whose support I believe will be amazing. “As a player I like to set the tone during training and games, I believe that I’m part of the team to do a job, therefore I always make sure I’m giving 120% during highs and more importantly during lows. I am an athletic and combative midfielder who loves to break the opposition's attacking play. I'm hoping to bring this strength of mine to help the team achieve the aims and objectives for the coming season!” For information on sponsoring Sidi Sanogo Fofana, or reserving future player sponsorship ahead of our upcoming signings, please contact Nick at
