News: Grimshaw looks to move on

Defender Matt Grimshaw has today taken the decision to move away from Atherton Collieries in search for regular First Team football. Grimshaw joined the Colls four years ago, signing under then Manager Steve Pilling. Consistently a fine performer, the defender was at the heart of Atherton’s defence for a number of years, central to all game plans, but struggled to find his place in this season’s side. Since joining the black and whites back in 2013, Grimshaw has made a total of 114 appearances in a Collieries shirt, scoring eight goals in the process and donning the Captain's armband a handful of times. He is a Colls legend. Speaking of the decision, Manager Michael Clegg said, “Matt’s now available for a move away from the Kensite. He is a defender in his prime that has lacked opportunities this season due to the form of others. There are no other words to describe him really, he is a fantastic centre half that has been a loyal servant for this Club. We are extremely gutted to be losing him but we can’t hold a lad of this quality back. You will not meet a nicer man in football, a massive thank you to him, and best of luck for the future.” Anybody interested in having Grimshaw play for them should speak to Clegg directly.
