Atherton Collieries AFC are pleased to announce the formation of a junior set-up at the club. Colls, who have just won promotion to the Evo-Stik League for the first time in their history, have launched the junior academy set-up with a view to further increase participation for youngsters in the local community. This exciting development also provides young local players the chance to improve their game while creating a player pathway from the youngest age groups right through to youth football and semi-professional levels. This is a huge move forward for Atherton Collieries as the club looks to further cement it's status as a community club, while complementing the great work that has been going on locally for many years. The town is a hotbed of youth football with Atherton Town, Hindsford, Pennington and Atherton LR all boasting successfully run junior clubs. It has long been an ambition of Collieries to join these clubs in not only supporting grassroots football in the local community but to also nurture talent with the view to developing our own future first team players.
All junior teams will be playing in the same kit as the first team and there will be a lot of links formed to ensure Atherton Collieries, as a whole club, develops and grows both on and off the pitch. If you are a player or have a child who is interested in taking their game to the next level and joining a forward thinking and progressive club with an emphasis on quality coaching in a great environment, or a coach who would like to establish a team, please get in touch with Andy Holliday on 07973 461747 or e-mail asjholliday@gmail.com for further information.Initially there will be five different age groups set up in time for the upcoming season: Under 6, Under 7 and Under 8 alongside two Under 14 sides who will play on a Saturday and Sunday respectively. This is then further complemented by a newly formed U18s youth team. It is expected that more teams will be added in the coming future.
