Atherton Collieries will make their Evo-Stik League debut with an away trip to familiar opponents. The NWCFL champions from 2015/16, Colne will host the Colls on Saturday 12th August at 15:00. The two sides have had some fantastic clashes in the last three years, with the most recent coming last pre-season in the NWCFL Champions Trophy. Colne won that encounter 2-0, with Colls securing their place in that match by beating the Lancashire side 5-1 in the League Cup final at Fleetwood last May. Former Colls player Mark Ayres is currently a key player for Colne, winning awards at their end of season ceremony. He is expected to start in the match against his former side and will receive a warm reception from those making the journey from Atherton. Colne manager, Steve Cunningham, has been busy over the summer and has secured the services of respected Curzon Ashton goalkeeper Hakan Burton, following his decision to spend more time with his young family, opting to drop down two divisions so he had to travel less. Collieries first home match of the season comes against Kendal Town just two days later when they meet under the lights at The Kensite Stadium. Meanwhile, the league campaign is due to finish on Saturday 28th April with an away trip to Bamber Bridge. A Boxing Day trip to Ramsbottom United will be followed four days later with a trip to Yorkshire where Michael Clegg's side will take on Ossett Albion. The much anticipated trips to South Shields and Scarborough Athletic will take place on Saturday 4th November and 2nd December respectively.
