Atherton Collieries can today confirm the arrivals of experienced defender Mo Ali and goalkeeper Joe O’Shaughnessy.
A versatile defender who can play either center-half or defensive midfield, Mohamud Ali joins from Nantwich Town, where he has been a regular in the squad this season as the club have embarked on a noteworthy FA Trophy campaign.
The 27-year old is a product of the highly rated Alphense Boys academy in the Netherlands, from whom he earned a move to ADO Den Haag where he would play alongside Nathan Ake. Mo moved to Manchester in 2013 and has earned his status in non-league since, and has most notably impressed for Curzon Ashton and Warrington Town alongside spells with Mossley, Droylsden and Northwich.
Mo also adds further international pedigree to the Colls squad, with eight international caps to his name alongside a Man of the Match performance when the nation recorded their first ever World Cup Qualification victory in 2019, against Zimbabwe.
21-year old Joe O’Shaughnessy joins having come through the Burnley youth ranks before earning a move to Wolverhampton Wanderers. A loan move to Bradford followed, before signing for Macclesfield FC last season. The imposing 6’6 stopper has spent this season with NPL Division 1 title challengers Leek Town, playing his part as the club produced a notable giant killing against Worcester.
The club would also like to place on record our thanks to defender Jordan Fagbola, who has departed the club to join Trafford. Jordan has made 19 appearances for the club since his arrival in the summer, and we wish him all the best for the future.
Both Joe O'Shaughnessy and Mo Ali will be available for selection for today's fixture against Whitby Town, 3pm kick-off at the Skuna Stadium.
