News: Pre-Season Fixtures

ATHERTON COLLIERIES PRE SEASON FIXTURES: Saturday 4th July 2015 – Atherton Collieries v Bolton Wanderers XI (15:00) Tuesday 14th July 2015 – Atherton Collieries v Salford City (19:30) Saturday 18th July 2015 – Daisy Hill v Atherton Collieries (15:00) Tuesday 21st July 2015 – Atherton Collieries v Stockport County (19:30) Saturday 25th July 2015 – Eccleshall v Atherton Collieries (15:00)
Atherton Collieries are pleased to announce their pre-season line up for the 2015/2016 campaign, with the highlight being the visit of a Bolton Wanderers XI. Other matches at home see Salford City and Stockport County visit downtown Atherton, while the annual jolly boys outing will take place at Eccleshall. The Wanderers will visit Alder House on Saturday 4th July with a 15:00 kick off in what will be a fantastic day for the club. Preparations then turn back to training before Evo-Stik Division One North champions Salford City make the short journey from Moor Lane. There are many links between the two clubs who last met competitively in 2008. The Ammies - who are owned by the likes of Paul Scholes and Gary Neville - are managed by former Collieries player Anthony Johnson. The close links don't stop there, as Mark Battersby, Jake Kenny, Danny Taberner, Matt Grimshaw, Josh Messer and Wes Bancroft have all had spells at Salford. A familiar train journey (or walk) down the road to Daisy Hill follows on Saturday 18th July. Next season will be the first time that the two sides won’t be in the same league since 2009 so a pre-season fixture ensures we don’t stay away from New Sirs for too long. Former Football League side Stockport County play us at home on Tuesday 21st July before the final scheduled friendly away at Eccleshall on Saturday 25th July. The coach trip down to Staffordshire will serve as our jolly boys outing after previous years trips to Holyhead Hotspur, Coventry Sphinx, Sunderland RCA, Glantraeth and Whitley Bay. Admission details (and travel arrangements for Eccleshall) will be announced at a later date.
