Atherton Collieries will aim to follow up on Friday’s impressive 3-2 victory over early promotion-chasers Vauxhall Motors as they travel to take on Chasetown on Tuesday night.
In a topsy-turvy game, goals from Kielen Adams, Aaron Dwyer and Matty Bryan were enough to eventually secure the Colls three more valuable points under the lights at the Dreams2Reality Stadium.
That made it four wins out of the last five in the league for Michael Clegg’s men, with that sole defeat coming on the road at another of the division’s current leading lights in Nantwich Town.
And another challenging away trip likely lies around the corner, as whilst Chasetown’s total of 28 points (eight wins, four draws, four defeats) only has them 9th in the standings at the time of writing, their total of 16 games played sits as the fewest in the league, meaning they are well positioned to make a push for the play-offs if they can capitalise on those games in hand.
That is something Cleggy and Co. will be aiming to prevent on Tuesday, and the somewhat mixed recent fortunes of their next opponents may offer some additional optimism in regards to achieving that goal.
The Scholars did triumph relatively comfortably (3-0 away at Wythenshawe) in their most recent outing, but that success followed back-to-back league defeats, accounting for half of their total for the season, against Stalybridge Celtic and the aforementioned Vauxhall Motors.
But with both of these sides having recaptured that winning feeling at the weekend, their upcoming meeting promises to be an intriguing encounter as they each look to carry forward that positive momentum.
For those intending on making the trip to The Scholars Ground, a minibus (departing at 4:30pm and priced at £15 per seat) will be running from the Rope and Anchor Pub, and the Atherton Collieries Supporters’ Club should be contacted on social media for information regarding any remaining availability.
Meanwhile, match tickets for Tuesday night’s game will be priced as follows:
Adults: £10
Concessions: £7
Under 18s: £4
Under 10s (with paying adult): Free.
