Preview: Colls vs Macclesfield

Atherton Collieries take on Macclesfield at the Skuna Stadium on Saturday, and your support will be vital as we look to go toe-to-toe with one of non-league footballs big guns.

Former EFL outfit Macclesfield have been resurgent over recent years, with chairman Robbie Savage on the hunt for a third consecutive promotion since his takeover alongside Rob Smethurst in 2020. The Town currently sit fifth in the Northern Premier League, and are coming off the back of three consecutive victories in the league against Bamber Bridge and play-off rivals Guiseley & Ilkeston.

Macclesfield come into Saturday's game on the back of appointing legendary former Colls manager Michael Clegg, who gained three promotions in five years at the Skuna Stadium alongside a myriad of cup wins and runs across a historic 300-game spell. We of course look forward to going head-to-head with a great friend of the club once more.

Meanwhile, the Colls are looking to build upon a strong point against league leaders Radcliffe, goals from Sidi Fofana and Nathan Caine nearly caused a monumental upset at the Neuven Stadium. The recent performances from David Chadwick’s men have seen the Colls collect 4 points from our last three fixtures, a galvanised effort as we look to secure our Northern Premier League status for another year.

Macclesfield’s top goal scorer this season has been Alex Curran, the former Stockport and Curzon Ashton man is a product of the Blackburn Rovers academy and has scored 21 goals in all competitions.

Due to recent weather, we do advise supporters to keep an eye on the club social media channels (Twitter, Instagram and Facebook) for updates with regards to a likely pitch inspection.

Tickets will be available on the day through our cash and card turnstiles, for £10 Adults, £7 Concessions, £4 for under 18s and free for under 11s and 1916 Club members.
