Preview: Kidsgrove v Colls

Buoyed by Tuesday night’s 5-3 win away at Clitheroe, the Collieries take to the road again tomorrow as they face Kidsgrove Athletic for the second time in seven days. Of course, Clegg’s men will be looking to put right last weekend’s 2-1 Emirates FA Cup defeat against the Blues. A game in which Atherton struggled to ever get going, the visitors took full advantage with two second half goals from Lee Williams and Shayne Rhoydes, Luke Giverin’s 90th minute consolation goal proved to be just that. The Colls were a shadow of the side seen at the Skuna Stadium a week previous against Skelmersdale United, 9-1 once again a dream and no longer a reality. Tuesday night’s outing at Clitheroe, though, put a smile back on Atherton faces as Clegg’s men fought back from behind to take a very respectable three points home from Shawbridge, their first win against the Blues since North West Counties league records began (1982). 3-1 down at the break, goals from Connor Gaul, Ben Conway, James Sigsworth and Ben Hardcastle saw the Collieries win by a quite remarkable five goals to Clitheroe’s three. Atherton now the highest scoring team in the Evo-Stik West league. Kidsgrove, on the other hand, built on their Skuna Stadium triumph with three points mid-week. Seven man Widnes just lacked the bodies to earn a credible point against the Staffordshire based side, Peter Williams scoring late on in the game. Saturday will see the Collieries look to make amends, although the hosts will want to keep their fine run of form going - a game that will not be for the faint-hearted. As always, your support will be appreciated, however for those who are unable to make journey down the M6 please follow @ACFC1916 for live updates.  Kick off – 15:00 Date – 15/09/18 Address – Novus Stadium, Hollinwood Road, Kidsgrove, ST7 1DQ
