Preview: Morpeth (A)

Atherton Collieries make the long trip north to take on Morpeth Town this weekend, looking to turn a run of positive performances into precious points.

The Colls head into Saturday's showdown off the back of a string of encouraging displays against promotion chasers Radcliffe, Hyde United and Guiseley, which perhaps haven't been fully reflected in the form of a move up the league table.

Morpeth, meanwhile, had been on a run of five games without a win (including an entertaining 4-3 defeat at the hands of the Colls in the reverse fixture) before beating FC United of Manchester 3-0 last time out. Those results leave the Highwaymen 15th in the Northern Premier League table, with 38 points taken from 30 matches.

Their most recent triumph against FC United came in large part thanks to a pair of penalties from Sam Hodgson, and he will likely be the man tasked with spearheading Morpeth's efforts again.

Hodgson's name is one that may already be familiar to fans at the Skuna Stadium, with the on-loan South Shields striker having also got himself on the scoresheet in last month's aforementioned seven-goal thriller.

Despite coming out on the losing side of that encounter, Morpeth have historically had the Colls' number, particularly at Craik Park, where they have triumphed by an aggregate score of 8-0 in three previous meetings.

David Chadwick's men will be desperate to shatter that record on Saturday, and your support will be vital as they aim to end their North-East hoodoo, and gain vital ground in the battle to avoid the drop.

Club travel, costing £20, is departing the Skuna Stadium following a 9:00am meet, but spaces are limited so please contact Dave Wyche or the club to confirm your seat.
