Atherton Collieries travel to Newcastle Town today, celebrating the fact their Northern Premier League status for a ninth season has been secured by results elsewhere yesterday.
The Colls were seconds away from that confirmation at home against Bootle last time out, only to be denied by a contentious stoppage-time equaliser as things ultimately ended 1-1 at the Dreams2Reality Stadium.
Still, that draw made it just 1 defeat in the last 11 games for Michael Clegg’s men, a positive stretch of form that leaves them secure and within touching distance of a top-half finish, with just three games left in the campaign.
Newcastle Town are a team also looking to cross the survival finish line imminently, and can secure survival with two points from their remaining three games, so will offer a more than tough test for Michael Clegg’s men as a win will secure their own survival.
Castle’s record of 47 points from 39 matches played (amassed via 12 wins, 11 draws and 16 defeats) leaves them sat 17th prior to this latest round of fixtures getting under way, just four points and two places above the bottom four.
Last time we faced the Castle, it was a 0-0 at the Dreams2Reality Stadium in October, as Michael Clegg and his freshly appointed management team continued to settle in following their return.
The travelling Colls contingent will be hoping to be treated to slightly more action this time around, and for those planning on heading to this weekend’s game, travel will be running from the Dreams2Reality Stadium departing at 11:45am and priced at £15 per seat.
The Supporters’ Club should be contacted regarding any remaining availability.
Meanwhile, entry to the Red Industries Stadium is priced as follows:
Adults: £11, Concessions: £7, Under 16s: £3, Under 12s: Free.
