Tomorrow, the Collieries make the journey down the M6 to take on Hallmark Security League First Division side Sandbach United in the Second Round of the Macron Cup. Atherton travel to the Sandbach Community Football Centre keen to defend their cup wining title, seeing off Colne 5-1 in last season’s final at Fleetwood Town’s Highbury Stadium. A Mark Battersby hat-trick as well as goals from Jordan Cover and Ben Hardcastle secured the cup for the Colls on what was a magical evening on the Fylde coast. The Collieries meet Sandbach in fine form, United currently occupy fourth spot in the First Division table, having won five of their last six outings. Their most recent win came on Tuesday night as they saw off First Division form side Widnes with a 3-0 win – the goals came from Josh Lane and a Daniel Bartle double.
