After eleven days away, the Collieries are back in Pitching In Northern Premier League action this afternoon – Stafford Rangers the destination. Cooke’s lads will be buoyed coming into this fixture following a cup double. First, the dramatic 3-1 victory at home against Witton Albion in the Emirates FA Cup. More recently on Tuesday night, an emphatic 4-0 victory away at Colne in the Lancashire Challenge Trophy. Dominating from start to finish, quality finishes from Danny Lambert, Ben Conway, Elliot Rokka and Dylan Glass ensured progression to the next round. After the game, Cooke spoke of his pride in the manner with which the Colls went about victory, “Colne is always a tough place to go but I thought we were exceptional. All four finishes were great. It was a very convincing performance and we are very happy.”
Stafford Rangers, on the other hand, found themselves without a midweek fixture to prepare for, their last game coming in the league last weekend. A 2-0 win for Stafford that afternoon with goals coming from Jospeh Kenton and Thomas Tonks.
Looking ahead to this fixture, Cooke reflected on the congested fixture list, “It’d have been nice to have had a break from the league without as many games. There has been so many games in such a short space of time and we have fallen victim to a couple of little knocks and niggles along the way. Saturday, like every single game this season, is going to be extremely tough. We will approach it in the same way and pay them the respect they deserve.”
