The Emirates FA Cup is back in town on Saturday, Witton Albion the visitors for this Second Qualifying Round tie. In the previous round, the Collieries were taken all the way to a replay by Pitching In Northern Premier League East Division outfit Bridlington Town. A Tuesday night on the East Coast saw Cooke’s side initially succumb to a Brid lead. Any Atherton nerves were soon calmed however, a cool headed effort from Marcus Cusani. Further goals from Elliot Rokka and Jack Lenehan secured progress in England’s most prestigious cup competition. Cooke was respectful of the opposition in his post-match thougts, “Fair play to Bridlington. They have given us a really good go over the two ties, we wish them all the best of the season.”
Witton Albion also found themselves victorious on the East coast in their own First Qualifying Round encounter with Scarborough Athletic. Albion soaked up the initial Scarborough pressure to run out eventual 2-0 winners - Jawad Jebrin outran the Seadogs defence for the first and James Hooper doubled the advantage as he tapped home a fumbled corner.
As always, your support will be very much appreciated by the Club. In the words of goal-of-the-month-winner Ethan Kershaw, “Make your voices loud, and we will do you proud.” Couldn’t put it better myself! Join us at the Skuna as the road to Wembley continues.
