Colls took the lead early in the second half but ultimately succumbed by the odd goal in three to their Staffordshire hosts.
The first period was a rather nondescript affair. Both teams attempted to play possession football on the new zippy, bespoke 4G surface but neither shotstopper had a tangible save of note to make. The hosts had a couple of headed opportunities but fortunately these were well off target. Colls were tidy but a tad toothless.
Will Riding was introduced at half time and he bagged his first league goal for the stripes on the hour mark. Aaron Dwyer fed Ethan Kershaw whose pinpoint cross was met deliciously by Riding just inside the penalty box.
This was the catalyst for Chasetown to chase the game down with vigour. They had been a little negligent with three or four headed efforts but they kept the faith and mere minutes after the Colls strike, Joey Butlin was accorded the freedom of the penalty area to nod past a helpless Sol Honor.
Ten minutes later George Cater turned the match totally on its head with a quality finish. A good goal all round.
Honor was forced into a decent save as Chasetown threatened to cut loose before Tom Bentham was inches away from nodding a leveller following fine Calen Gallagher work.
Disappointment for Clegg and Co in their furthest league trip of the campaign. Cleggy looks forward to getting his charges on the training pitch in the next few weeks as the recent glut of games is becalmed.
On Saturday, it’s a visit to the picturesque Seel Park, home of Mossley FC. KO 3pm.
