Atherton came away from Saturday’s crunch clash with Stafford Rangers with a hard-earned point following a competitive outing at the Dreams2Reality Stadium.
Experienced winger Matty Bryan capped an excellent first half for the hosts with an exquisite long-range goal, looping the ball perfectly over stopper Cam Belford from distance.
Roles were reversed second half, with Stafford recovering after the interval and keeping the Colls under the cosh for extended periods.
Stripes stopper Sol Honor won his share of the plaudits, producing a fine double save from a penalty kick, but was eventually beaten by Ackeme Francis-Burrell when crowded out from a corner.
Honor produced another top drawer save to keep scores level in the 101st minute, after Danny Lafferty was unfortunate not to score a Colls winner at the other end with a glancing header.
Next up, the Colls travel to Congleton Town for another big test against one of the league’s title challengers. Any support on the road will be appreciated, contact the Supporters Club for travel details.
