An injury time Scott Bakkor effort put the gloss on solid Stripes display to inch them further away from the fourth relegation spot.
City Of Liverpool made their first ever league appearance at the Dreams2Reality Stadium in wretched form but they acquitted themselves well early doors. However they were unable to trouble the scorer and it was the Collieries who took a 25th minute lead. An Aaron Dwyer centre corner was nonchalantly butted home by Calen Gallagher-Allison. That’s the sixth headed finish of the campaign for the goal hungry centre-half. Joe Piggott was inches away from sliding home a tempting cross as Michael Clegg’s ended the opening period in the ascendancy.
Colls needed another to settle nerves and got it on the hour mark. Defence was turned to attack quickly which enabled Dwyer to turn his mark inside out before caressing the ball past the COL’s custodian.
The Purps continued to play their part in proceedings despite by being outmanoeuvred. Dwyer smashed a smoker against the post and Tom Bentham thundered a header onto the crossbar. Bakkor sprinted clear for his goal to improve his team’s goal difference and put a realistic slant on the scoreline. Another satisfactory evening under the Friday night lights.
