Atherton Collieries laid down yet another major statement of refound intent with a 3-2 victory against title challengers Vauxhall Motors on Friday night.
The Stripes were in the ascendancy from the off and made the early pressure count through local non-league veteran Matty Bryan. The forward created an opportunity for Kielen Adams, who outmuscled multiple defenders before firing home for the Stripes.
The Motormen fought back before half-time. In a very Collsy fashion, a scuffed clearance found Rushton who took a touch and unleashed a fierce volley that left Sol Honor rooted to the spot. The forward was soon gifted a penalty for his second of the game.
The Colls refound their feet in the second half, deservedly pushing on for victory. Matty Bryan created the equaliser with a great break into the box, firing a low effort through the grasp of Jack Atkinson to be converted by Aaron Dwyer.
Bryan soon confirmed a show stealing performance with a worldie of a free-kick from 25 yards, his winning goal claiming another major scalp for the Collieries who continue moving on up the league table.
