This coming Saturday sees the official launch of the Skuna Stadium. Our visitors are table topping Runcorn Linnets who we defeated 3-2 in the league just last week, this time competing in the Extra Preliminary Round of the FA Trophy.
In the evening we have music from Jordan of Green Army and his band, an entertainer many of you will be familiar with from last season's Player of the Year Awards.
In their first ever FA Trophy game, Linnets are guaranteed to provide familiar and tough opposition. Midweek, whilst we were competing in the Lancashire FA Challenge Trophy, Linnets took all three points away from Mossley with a 93rd minute penalty, after Freddie Potter had equalised on 75 minutes, to move to the top of the division.
Last season saw Colls on the road for their first two FA Trophy games, rattling in 4 goals each against Stocksbridge Park Steels and Kendal Town. Our first home game in the competition saw Marine from the Evo-stik Premier Division give us what can only be described as a footballing lesson, in front of a bumper crowd. Vinny Bailey during his spell at Marine the architect, as their fans danced a conga around the stadium. With former Colls Kristian Holt and Paul Shanley amongst the Linnets' ranks, hopefully history will not be repeating itself this weekend.
