Today Atherton Collieries have launched their first ever competition run solely for school children in the local community. At our open committee meeting shortly after Christmas it was agreed that we would do more to involve local school children in the club as well as aiming to set up a number of youth teams in preparation for next season. This morning, the club has been going around every Primary School in the community, delivering a competition leaflet for each individual child. The school's who have been involved are:
  • St Phillips
  • St Andrews
  • Chowbent
  • St Richards
  • Meadowbank
  • Parklee
  • Hindsford
  • Sacred Heart
  • St Georges
The competition brief is simple: "Atherton Collieries Football Club are looking to continue our involvement in the community by inviting all local schools to participate in a ‘Design a Poster’ competition. To enter, we want you to create a piece of artwork representing Atherton or Atherton Collieries FC. The design could represent the current team, the history or future of the club, or even the history of Atherton itself. We would love to see how you can use your imaginations! Entries can be made by hand or digitally (whatever suits you!), but must be submitted on a portrait piece of paper. All designs are to be submitted to the football club before 11am on Easter Monday. We will be collecting the entries in the clubhouse at our Kensite Stadium on Alder Street (M46 9EY). The competition is open to any pupils currently at primary or secondary school. All participants will receive a small gift for their entry, with a prize also available for the winner. All entries will also be entered into a separate draw to be mascots for our match against Runcorn Town on 29th April. The winning design will appear on the matchday magazine, around the football club & on all forms of our social media. It will be selected by first team manager Michael Clegg & chairman Paul Gregory. After the submission, the Colls will play AFC Darwen & it is free entry for every child with an accompanying adult. This will be a very important match as we continue to compete for the league title & promotion, and your support would be fantastic. Good Luck!!! #CollsYouth For questions or digital submissions, please email: secretaryacfc1916@yahoo.com"
