Snapshot: NWCFL Division 3 Champions 1986/87

The club won their tenth and final Bolton Combination in 1965 and fifty years later pick up the NWCFL Division 1 title. In the intervening 50 years only a solitary league championship trophy sat proudly in the generally spartan clubhouse trophy cabinet.
The 1986/87 NWCFL Division 3 was a stellar campaign. Led by Alan Ainscough the team went into the final game on Monday 18 May needing to beat old rivals Maghull to win the league. In the era of two points for a win anything less than maximum points would have seen Flixton finish top dogs. Colls being Colls didn't make life easy for themselves but two Jimmy Colloby strikes and a penalty by hometown legend Steve Wallace ensured a nervy 3-2 triumph. The photo shows skipper Micky King and the lads with the shiny Third Division Championship trophy immediately after the game. One can only presume that the champagne, or more likely Stone's Bitter flowed in the clubhouse 'til the wee small hours.
