Atherton Collieries would like to wish a warm welcome back to the Dreams2Reality.co.uk Stadium to Mo Ali, whilst extending our thanks and best wishes to the departing Alex Doyle and Connor Hughes.
Somalia international Mo Ali returns to the club having made 19 appearances as a centre-half, defensive midfielder and full-back for the club in 2023 and 2024, and has subsequently turned out for Llandudno and Rhyl.
Mo Ali began his career with Alphense Boys in the Netherlands, before earning a move to ADO Den Haag, and has since become an experienced name throughout non-league with spells at Northwich Victoria, Curzon Ashton, Warrington Town, Southport and Nantwich, amongst others.
Forward Connor Hughes departs having returned to the club in the summer, making four appearances this campaign to take his total tally in the Stripes to 15 appearances with two goals.
Alex Doyle departs the club after 74 appearances since signing in 2024, with four goals and two assists, and has been an evergreen & reliable presence throughout a transitional period on the pitch. Alex led the squad out as captain for our opening day FA Cup tie at Barnoldswick, joined by his newborn twins Thea and Ronnie, before subsequently scoring in the second half.
In a message to the supporters, Alex posted: “After a lot of thought, I’ve decided it’s time for me to move on. I want to say a massive thank you to everyone at the club for making my time here so special.
“To my teammates, the staff and everyone behind the scenes, thank you for all of the memories, support and good times along the way.
“A special thank you to the fans, your support from the moment I arrived has meant a lot to me, and I’ll always be grateful. I’ve loved representing this club and I’m proud of everything we’ve shared together.
“I’ll leave with some great memories and a lot of respect for everyone connected to the club. Thank you for everything.”
We want to say a big thank you to Alex and Connor for their contributions to the club, and wish them the best of luck for their future careers.
