Statement: Festive fixtures postponed

After an examination of the current situation both locally and nationally, Atherton Collieries regretfully announce that they will not be fulfilling their Boxing Day and New Years Day fixtures. Financial considerations played a part in the decision made, however the overarching consideration is that of the health and safety of all involved. With families across the United Kingdom having to change and cancel their Christmas plans, the Club feel it would simply not be ethical to have up to 300 people at the Skuna Stadium over the festive season. We want all players, supporters and officials to stay safe, unfortunately watching or playing a game of football cannot guarantee this safety at the moment. In the wider context of the situation missing two games of football, whilst naturally disappointing, is insignificant. We will, of course, update all of our supporters with future developments in real time. All that remains to be said is that we hope everyone has as pleasant a Christmas as possible, we look forward to welcoming you all back as soon as it is safe to do so.
