Transfer: Jack Kenny transfers from Prestatyn

Atherton Collieries Football Club can also tonight announce the signing of forward, Jack Kenny from Welsh Premier League side Prestatyn Town. Following on from the arrivals of fellow striker Gary Burnett and midfielder Vinny Bailey; this signature is a real coup for the club. Kenny, who lives in Leigh, featured for Colls during pre-season in 2014 and made quite an impression, so much so that within a few weeks of arriving from Leigh Athletic he made the move to Rhyl under Greg Strong. He enjoyed his spell at Rhyl and then moved down a division to play for Prestatyn, playing a key part in their promotion into the Welsh Premier League last campaign. This season he has made 20 appearances in the Welsh top flight and has five goals to his name. Three and a half years on, Kenny is now back at his local club and has signed a contract that will keep him at Colls until at least the end of the season.  "We have been trying so hard to bring Jack in for a number of weeks now. He was under contract at Pretstatyn and the level of paperwork that has been involved in this transfer is something we have never had to deal with before," Clegg explained. "He is such a good forward. He is tall, quick, strong and has a proven record of scoring goals. We have suffered in that department this season with the various injuries to Jordan Cover and Ryan Salmon; it has really hampered our flow." "At times we have been playing games with no striker," stated Clegg, admitting that he has had to be extremely patient waiting for the all clear to formally sign Kenny. "I think it shows the amount of belief we have in him that we have stuck around and tried to sort this one out, rather than being hasty and looking elsewhere for a short term solution. He comes in on a contract and I have no doubt that he will be a success at this football club." "He lives three miles away, he is young and he is a player we would love to keep here on a long term basis." The amount of hard work put in by all parties has also been mentioned by club secretary Emil Anderson, who would like to put on record his thanks to the Welsh FA and Will Leversuch at The FA for their help and assistance in getting this one over the line this afternoon.  Other news from the management team is that forward Darrhyl Mason has been allowed to find a new club and any clubs that are interested can contact us directly. We wish Darrhyl the very best and thank you for his service to the club.
