Atherton Collieries are delighted to announce that they have signed former U18's squad member Ahmed Sulay ahead of the upcoming season. The pacy youngster made his first team debut against Bolton Wanderers on Saturday and the club have moved quickly to secure his services following an impressive performance. Having spent time in the youth setups at Bolton Wanderers and Rochdale, Sulay joined Eagley where he teamed up with Marc Height and Matty Dewhurst. The team eventually moved over to Atherton Collieries and subsequently rebranded, meaning that Sulay was a main part of the U18 team that won the league last campaign. Player coach Andy Heald has expressed his excitement with Collieries latest signing, he said, "Since linking up with the first team a few weeks ago Ahmed has demonstrated a real desire to impress and has done so with quality." "He has everything to succeed at this level and his pace and power will be a key attribute to the team this season." "There are some exciting times ahead and we are really looking forward to working with him. Yet again, we have managed to bring in some fantastic young and more importantly local talent." Sulay is relishing the challenge and knows he will have to continue with his hard work and commitment to succeed this season, he said, "The reason why I wanted to join the first team here at Atherton Collieries is the fact I want to play football at a higher level." "I have really enjoyed training with the lads and they have welcomed me instantly. It's clear that there is a bond at this football club." "I know I will have to work extremely hard to get into the squad but it is a challenge I am looking forward to." Sulay joins Matt Cross and Jimmy Moore in joining the Collieries ranks for the upcoming season.
