The Colls Under 18s have progressed to the quarter finals of the Lancashire Youth Cup following a hard fought 4-2 victory over AFC Monton.

A first half hat-trick from Liam Sheppard set the Collieries on the right track, with Ben Taylor contributing an assist with a mazey run to create the pick of the bunch, before the forward created a chance of his own to add to the Colls lead after the break.

Two late goals from the strong Monton outfit gave the Collieries a brief late concern, but the hosts’ fightback was too little, too late as the Black and Whites progressed.

The Young Stripes are next in action against Fylde next Sunday in the North West Youth Alliance Open Cup, venue and kick-off time to be confirmed.

Elsewhere, the Under 17s Colts continued their Bolton & Bury Junior League campaign with a 6-1 win over Bruche Athletic.

In youth team loan action on Saturday, Ben Layton played sixty minutes for Elton Vale who suffered a late 2-1 defeat to Bolton County, whilst Archie O’Neill featured for Moorside Rangers, losing 3-1 to league leaders Rochdale Sacred Heart. Harry Stephens’ Pennington and Finn Jones’ Rossendale were not in action.

Meanwhile, striker Liam Sheppard has agreed dual registration terms with Prestwich Heys in the North West Counties Premier, joining Colls first teamers Mad Bardsley-Rowe, Ethan Kershaw, Alfie Belcher and Noah Inneh for availability at Adie Moran Park. The Heys next face Pilkington away on Saturday 9th.
